The Forest Dweller eBook Deborah McClatchey

Spooky and unsettling, this story gripped me right away, and not only because I didn't know where it's going. Candy and Lucy are such vivid characters, such typical pre-teens (and I have two at home!). Even when they crossed the line - well, Candy did - while expressing their aversion of Priscilla, they were still so real and lively, so easy to connect to. Especially that Lucy did plenty of growing up through the story with wonderful character development, even before the things got dicey.
The suspense and mystery elements were done wonderfully, keeping me, as a reader, on edge all the time. What was there in the forest that made all these children disappear and their parents accept it so easily? Well, read to find out :-)

The Forest Dweller eBook Deborah McClatchey Reviews

This was a creepy book. You never know what's lurking in the forest. Or what's wandering your streets at night.
Children go missing in the small town and yet no bodies are found. Kidnapped?? The sheriff is stymied as he continues to search the woods with his deputies and his faithful bloodhound and come up with nothing.
Lucy and her best friend Candy torment Priscilla, their schoolmate...just because they can. Lucy finally realizes that Candy is bordering on being a bully! This book shows Lucy's growth to becoming an independent thinker, not to be persuaded into doing something Candy pushes her to do. Which could jeopardize her life!

I enjoyed this story and highly recommend for middle school on up. It does have some scary moments! I received this book as a gift in exchange for an honest review.
A spooky tale! I like stories of the unexpected and the feeling of not knowing what lies ahead. This book has a lot of thrills and mystery. It also has a really meaty plot to back it up with. It was just what I was looking for! I’m glad I found it.
It is not very often I get to read books that instantaneously grabs your attention in the very first scene, and then keeps it consistently until the very last line has been read and Deborah McClatchey manages to achieve this great feat in The Forrest Dwellers.
As we sink into this story we realize that the world around our characters whom we instantly fall in love with, is a rather strange and dark one as children and going missing without a trace, literally, and everyone is clueless, everyone except for young Lucy Doran, whom is dubbed the girl with a “wild imagination”.

No one seems too concerned children are missing and bodies are being found later, in this quiet town, this fact in its entirety is all the reason to be spooked, for lovers of thrills and chills this book is a must read. The author spent time creating the plot and then more time weaving the characters and sequence of events destined to scare the holy hell out of anyone. This spooky mystery thriller is one for the history books with a grave lesson . . . stay out of the forest. You. Were. Warned.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the forest...
A story like The Forest Dweller comes along and has you spooked!
Children are missing in the quaint little town of Mountain Dale which is surrounded by a lush green forest. None of the bodies are ever found either. The parents act strange and go about their normal routines. They seem to just accept it and local sheriff Brown makes his reports and moves on. Something is just not right here! Lucy and Candy are great friends who are enjoying all that life has to offer preteens except for the teasing and bullying they inflict upon Priscilla, an overweight classmate. When she disappears I kept thinking it was Lucy and Candy who were up to this, but more surprises and twists came along when Lucy sees a real green gnome in the window. Things get scary when Candy disappears also and Lucy is captured by this ugly green gnome . This is a great suspense story packed with fantasy for middle grades on up. I believe it will especially appeal to young girls as they follow Lucy and Candy’s girlie antics.
My daughter became bored with this book after the first 10 pages.
Candy and Lucy are pre-teens and enjoy picking on their classmate, Priscilla. When Priscilla goes missing, I wondered if Candy and Lucy played a hand in it, but she’s not the first child to disappear. More have gone missing in the surrounding eerie forest. Their parents and the law don’t seem to be all that concerned about the disappearances. Something isn’t right. This is a suspenseful, well-plotted, spooky story for middle-grade kids, and everyone who enjoys scary tales.
I enjoyed reading Deborah McClatchey story about the two young teenage girls. They are well described as typical characters for their age, out to have a bit of fun. Unfortunately for the girls they took what they thought was fun too far and find themselves in terrifying situations several times. Without revealing too much of the story, I can honestly recommend this book. It is well written with many twist and creepy moments, you won’t want to put it down until the end. Get this book, it is a great read. Well done Deborah McClatchey.
