A good book, play or movie should have the following components It should make you laugh. It should make you cry. It should also have suspense and/or drama. There should be someone in the story that you love to love, someone that you love to hate and there should be things that make you go hmmmmm. All of the above is in this easy-to-read autobiography. It was a long journey to get to this place where I am now, and this book is about how God (The Grand Master) helped this weary traveler along the way. This is not one of those "Hallelujah, Come-to- Jesus" kind of stories - far from it. Instead, it's about someone who found his own spirituality, and felt it was important enough to share his story with others who may be on a spiritual journey of their own.

The book, "The Transformation of a Lost Soul, by author, Forrest J. Beverly left me pondering a number of subjects that have been the source of contention or a search for answers with me for many years. Like my expectations when viewing movies, I expect a book to make a strong case for winning my feeling that my time was well spent. I expect the contents of the book to prove to me that it lives up to it's title and proposed intention in every way possible. The title " The Transformation of a Lost Soul " by virtue of it's name, leaves a lot of explaining to do.I look for a book to start great, to keep up the foundation of interest in the middle and end, leaving me lots to ponder. In all of my years of reading many books of valued substance, I have rarely read a book that astounded me with the quality of the many deeply emotion controlling stories, as this book.
Forrest J Beverly brilliantly, from beginning to the very end, demanded my attention with the chronologically perfect arrangement of gut wrenching, thought provoking. many times, sad, sometimes laughter inducing, accounts of his life story. It was almost difficult to believe that one individual could have stood witness to so many character challenging episodes in one lifetime.
I hung on to every story as if I was actually living in the moment, as if it was today. Sometimes I was emotionally force to stop to examine my soul and cry and other times I stopped to yell out a loud laugh. Some stories were so humanely sad and others were simply hilarious. What emotional balance in a book!
Yet, at the very ending pages of the book, he left me truly convinced that his life story from even the beginning of his birth to what his thoughts are today regarding Life, Death and all that come in between are worthy of the title, "The Transformation of a Lost Soul". My highest regards for your story Forrest J Beverly. The quality and preciseness of your ability to get your point across with conviction leaves a lot for other books to live up to!

This is such a powerful collection of stories. I'm certainly guilty of overusing the word 'amazing,' but it absolutely applies to the life of Forrest Beverly. I've been incredibly blessed to have known this maestro story-teller as "Uncle Forrest" my entire life, and that made my experience reading the book especially meaningful.
Music has been a guiding light for my uncle for 60 years, and it's so interesting to me that the book moves in and out of stories like a beautiful improv solo. And this is some solo, let me let you wholly unpredictable, suspenseful, heart-wrenching, hilarious, cathartic, and altogether captivating. But the true power of the story is in learning that it hasn't been a solo at all, but a duet with God. This book is music to your eyes!
Confession I have known Forrest Beverly for more than fifty years, but not the guy described in this book.
You see, the Forrest Beverly I knew was a guy who showed up at Florida A&M University at the same time that I arrived. We both were determined to make it into the worlds most famous college marching band. The guy I knew was a pretty good sax player; a fun loving guy with a foul mouth. We became friends and performed together from time to time in various night clubs and bars in and around Tallahassee, Florida.
BUT, I must admit, I did not really know Forrest Beverly until I read The Transformation of a Lost Soul. Have you ever had a friend that you wondered about; that was uniquely different from everyone else you knew, and you wondered about his/her background? I always knew there was just something different about Tex (our nickname for him).
Reading this book not only answered all of the questions I had about him, but caused me gain new insight into my own being. My background, I always thought, was a basic middle class upbringing. But this book caused me to realize how many of the traumatic experiences in my past have shaped me into the man I am today. Just as he was transformed, so was I.
Forrest Beverly is the best example I know of why you can’t judge a book by looking at the cover. And you can’t judge people by how they look, how they dress, how they talk or who they say they are. You have to look a lot deeper than that.
I see myself as a Christian; a very spiritual person. I am who I am because of my life’s experiences. This book has caused me to gain additional insight into how I became ME.
This book is a very easy read. It is one of the most enjoyable books I have read in years, and not just because I know the author. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. Initially, I bought two copies. But I’m buying more to give as Christmas gifts. I’m even thinking that I should write a book myself. I, too, have a story to tell! Fred L
The author paints several pictures in which the reader can easily relate. He takes us to his small home town, his childhood with an abusive father, his love for family and disappointments. We understand his first recognition of racism, family love and the lack thereof. Forrest J. Beverly distinctly has us follow his years in college despite his impoverished existence and lack of affection. He leads us to his life as an adult and his thoughts of spiritualism. He questions the existence of God and asks questions of Him as many of us often do.
This book, The Transformation of a Lost Soul, is an easy read. It is thoughtfully written, filled with humor, thought provoking passages and concludes with a memo to God. We are allowed a peek into the private life of Forrest J. Beverly via of his thoughts that are printed here. This book is a morally admirable composition. This is one of those, "pat the book, review the blurb, smile and reflect", once you've finished the last word.
