I really enjoyed this lighthearted read. I tend to stay away from vampire books because they've become so predictable or are just filled with sex. This book actually had a delightful plot with characters who were well-fleshed out; characters with believable internal conflict, recognizable archetypes, and solid obstacles that they had to overcome in order to grow and come together. It was witty, entertaining, suspenseful at times, and so tastefully done in the romance department.

I think Delaney is so darn lovable. She's smart and sassy, willing to communicate and own up to her faults, but not a push-over or a heroine that makes you constantly roll your eyes due to any ridiculous helplessness on her part. Though she needs rescuing she's bound and determined to fight for herself and those she loves. Her random facts about chocolate are both yummy and educational. Ha! Her cat Captain Underpants is a brilliantly named feline who does absolutely nothing in this book which completely endeared me to him.

Hugh-another fabulous name- is too scrumptious for words. Protective and possessive in all the right ways and a serious force to be reckoned with. His past hurts and vulnerability draw you further into his world and history. I appreciated the tidbits of that history sprinkled throughout the book instead of one great big info dump. Nothing worse than paragraphs of backstory within the first pages of a novel.

The secondary characters added depth to the story and created the beginnings of a series I am anxious to continue. I want more. Sigh. Patience is not my virtue.

I am excited to add all of Kristen Painter's works to my kindle. Finally, a paranormal author I can admire and respect. If you are looking for a fun, romantic read then buy this book. You won't regret it.

The Vampire Mail Order Bride Nocturne Falls Volume 1 Kristen Painter 9781941695074 Books Reviews

The story is cute and silly- Delaney witnesses a mob murder and accidentally runs into a match making business to hide. Obviously she is mistaken for a client of the agency and given her match. So instead of clearing up the air, she decides that she will pretend to be this girl Annabelle and travel to Georgia to hide out.

Hugh is a vampire- with a grandmother that desires grandchildren. (Yeah- vampires having children...). So she hired a match making agency to send a perfect match for her grandson.

None of them expect the wrong girl to show up, nor do Delaney and Hugh expect that they could actually be a match.

So we have a brooding vampire, a girl who loves baking that is on the run from the mob in NYC, and a town trying hard to be quirky.

I guess this book is geared at a younger audience. The romance part is more professions of love with only hinted at sex. Definitely more on the silly and cheesy side of the spectrum.

Unfortunately, I am not currently interested in reading more of this series.
"Oh my gosh! This was the best book. Kristen Painter is so talented. She can write anything and she will always surprise you. This was unlike her Crescent City series. This wasn't serious like her Crescent City series. It was so much fun. I could really picture living in Nocturne Falls with all the fun characters, and some not so fun bad guys. There were some suspenseful moments too. I can't wait to read the next book. I hope she writes a book about the gargoyle. There were just so many fun characters.Oh, and those of you who love animals will love Captain the cat!"
I am a huge fan of Kristen Painter's books. After getting hooked on her House of Comarré series, I eagerly looked for others by her to read. Each has been highly enjoyable, this newest being no exception.

The Vampire's Mail Order Bride is a lighthearted story that made me laugh out loud several times. There was a great balance between Delaney, the heroine of quick wit and open heart, and the hero, Hugh, who was a bit more serious but completely captivated by Delaney. Added to the joy of the story was the Halloween theme of the town...made me wish such a place existed so I could visit! The book was a great combination of paranormal theme, romance, and humor. I loved Hugh and Delaney's story and can't wait for the next book to come out.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down, and finished it in 2 days. I love the characters, the town...where every day is Halloween as a cover for the supernatural beings that live there. The Vampire's Mail Order Bride was sweet (perhaps a little predictable, but it didn't bother me) but still fun. I also really appreciate Kristen's ability to write a sexy book that draws you in, without having to go in to detailed love-making. I think the build up can be just as hot or hotter than the descriptive sex scenes.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Meet Delaney a waitress who works at a place linked to the mob through rumor only, or so she thinks.

When she needs a place to hide Nocturne Falls presents itself as a place to disappear in. A place where everyday is Halloween, and not everything is as it appears.

Enter Hugh an almost 400 year old vampire with commitment issues and an overbearing grandmother.

I loved the story and that trust/relationship was not instant. Attraction was, and the love story was natural and not rushed.

The characters had depth and you want to hear more when the story is done.

Romance mild and mostly behind closed doors
Violence moderate. Some scenes but not overly descriptive.

Overall rating 4.5 which I rounded up to a 5.

The reason I didn't give 5 stars is I wanted more resolution to Delaney's troubles in the book.
