I would have given this book 5 stars if the editing wasn't such a severe problem for me. Punctuation was oftentimes in the wrong part of the sentences, and some sentences seemed to be missing altogether. It was as if someone just clicked the auto correct, and didn't even bother looking at the context of the sentences.Usually when I read a book, I get so enveloped in the story that I paint a picture of it in my head, as opposed to just reading words. That wasn't possible with this book since I had to translate what it was trying to say instead of just being able to read it.
It was so disappointing to me because I loved the storyline so much. It was an amazing story that got a full range of emotions from me. I just wish that the editing was done by a professional instead of a faulty autocorrect.

Finding Jess First Wave Book 2 eBook Mikayla Lane Reviews
This was a decent story that told me "what happened" to Jess from the first story. While I cannot say I will be reading this over and over again it was a nice story to keep the series flowing. I did feel like it was a little more filler than a free standing story. If I was bored I may revisit but I do hope the next captures my interest a little more. I'd rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars overall.
I did like the story and the characters from the very beginning BUT the punctuation within the first half of the book started to get me very frustrated! I don't like to review a book based on punctuation and grammar but this one had me so confused at times I had to stop reading. What the heck is up with all the semicolon? Every time I turned around a semicolon was thrown in to break up a sentence that should NOT have been broken up!! Also, there were a lot of sentences that began with "And" which is a big no, no! Missing commas ands way, way too many semicolons. The story would have flowed a lot better if the sentences hadn't been so broken up. The author needs to go back a correct the mistakes. Never in all my years of reading have I seen a book with so many semicolon, especially used incorrectly.
I actually had to stop reading the story because I wasn't getting the flow. I am definitely not saying it is a bad story, it just needs some tweaking. Jess and Amun are wonderful characters and I really like the scene with all the little children being healed. A very sweet and tender moment in the book.
Although the grammar is a little better, semicolon crazy yes. It took longer for Amun an Jess to be official an that's to be expected with all her injuries but I felt like I missed out on the getting to know ya stuff. Weeks would skip by with no recap. Not a lot of personal info shared between the two of them, didn't feel the connection with our heroes. Story, awesome, plot continuing, will continue this adventure.
This would be a much better story if the back story was better explained....such as when the male's "beast" rises to the surface. What beast? Where did it come from? How can these aliens blithely preside on Earth without any law enforcement noticing...or anyone else, for that matter?
It is also in DIRE need of proper editing--the punctuation and grammar are horrible, and part and/or all of sentences left out. This interrupts the flow of the story, making it choppy and difficult to follow. I enjoy this type of paranormal romance, but find it difficult to finish when I'm mentally proofreading the dratted thing.
I'm hooked on this series and excited the next book is already out. I was worried about Jess after finishing book 1. Goodness she's a tough woman. Amun and Jess are perfect for one another. He's exactly the kind of man she needs and deserves after the years of abuse and neglect.
This is an imaginative, unique and immensely satisfying series. I've fallen in love with the characters and the unique "challenges" many of the males run into to be very funny. Each story is as unique as the next, and I'm very glad to see there is another installment for me to devour! I'm already about 1/2 way through with Dare and Balduen's story, and will quickly tackle the new one right after that...my problem is usually that I read much faster than my favorite authors can write. So, I am very happy to be able to add Mikayla Lane to my ever expanding list. Thank you Ms. Lane for the hours of good fun entertainment.
This was an incredible story, especially for a sci-fi read. This is book 2 of the Men of Valendra series and the storyline is just heart-breaking.
Jess is a part human - part Valendran girl who was captured by the Relians an alien race that has been stranded on Earth for more than 2,000 years along with Valendran survivors. The Relians are the natural enemies of the Valendrans (see Book 1 Hunting Cari). As a captive Jess and her mother have been abused for many years and her mother was finally killed by the Relians, who have been trying to impregnate woman who were mated to Valendran survivors.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot but Jess is very special, her goal in life is to help any prisoners of the Relians escape, especially women. She has sacrificed herself many times to help others and when she meets Cari, she plans to help her also. All the human/valendran women have talents and Jess' is very talented.
You will love this book! I promise!
