I FLOVE Annette Marie!!! Dark Tempest, yes, please! My God this book, this series, has stolen my heart and soul.Red Winter was amazing but Dark Tempest, obliterated it in the best possible way. Emi is not just strong and courageous but she is the purest form of love. Shiro, OMG, LOVE HIM! He is even better than he was in Red Winter. You learn more about him in Dark Tempest. Shiro and Emi together, yeah, let's just say Dark Tempest doesn't disappoint. Yumei is just as hot, yummm.
I absolutely loved every word in Dark Tempest. I found myself laughing, cheering, and even crying. The side characters just wow. Annette Marie really does a fantastic job building worlds but also the depth of each character. You become so engorged in the story and their lives you want to scream when it's over because it feels likes it's only been a short time when it's been hours. I can't wait for Immortal Fire. Mad props to Annette Marie for another bada$$ series!
Now, I also want to give mad props to Brittany Jackson on her beautiful illustrations that made Dark Tempest come to life! Just beautiful work Brittany<3

Dark Tempest The Red Winter Trilogy Book 2 eBook Annette Marie Reviews
Wow I loved this book. It just went right on after the first book, which I also loved. This book answered some of the questions that made the first book so interesting and left you waiting for the second one. Now I can't wait to see where the third book takes us. Emi is the center of the story I really her and hope she can get her happy ever after with Shilo. He deserves it to and not knowing what is going to happen makes it so hard to wait for the next book. If you like magic, unraveling secrets, love, suspense and fighting bad powerful people and a tragic end coming up ( which I hope doesn't happen) you will love this book. If you haven't read book one read it first.
Once again, I absolutely love Emi, our main character. She isn't a whiny baby, nor is she super indestructible. She almost dies, a lot. But she also fights hard, she fights smartly, and she always fights to protect her new Yokai friends, and the duty she is still bound to. I love how now and again she just kind of takes a step back and wonders, how the hell did I end up traveling with all these powerful demons? When did she go from being a timid Kamigakuri to this confident, strong, warrior Miko? Loving this character development! I also really adored the fight scenes, they were amazing to imagine. I keep falling in love with the Yokai too, I would LOVE a side series focused on our beloved Tengu. And Shiro is such a shameless flirt, it adds a nice touch of silliness to the story. I couldn't stop reading it, and before I knew what was going on...it ended! Less than a days worth of reading, on to the next one!
Annette Marie crafts an intricate and delectable storyline in this second installment. It is wonderfully fast paced. The relationships that develop amongst the characters and the new characters that are introduced are wonderful. I am particularly intrigued with how Yumei is growing.
And Shiro and Emi's first 'kiss scene' is perfection. It suits the two of them soooo well.
I continue to be impressed with how flawlessly I find myself submersed in this world of which, other than these two books, I am wholly ignorant.
I can't wait for the next installment (and I pray to all the book gods that that will not be end to this world or these characters).
Love this series and can't understand why the books aren't more well-known. The second book starts the story right back up so you need to read Book 1 in order to understand what is going on. Emi is starting to grow into her power more, and the romance intensifies between her and Shiro in a way that doesn't feel forced. Shiro takes care of her, but Emi also protects him as well and they both respect each other's decisions even if they disagree. I hate when romance books have story lines where the female protagonist does something foolish and the male has to go save her, and I'm so glad the author doesn't use those types of pot devices. Emi is very much a heroine in her own right, and she is integral part of the "hero group" throughout the trilogy.
The background of Japan is fanfiction-y without being too anime cringe. (Although I personally did not like the illustrations interspersed throughout the books, I think I'm in the minority there) I enjoyed the way the author described the different worlds and characters; it was very easy to imagine what they all would look like.
On the off-chance the author randomly stumbles across my review, I really had fun with these and I'd love to have more books like them. If you could make your next series more adult and less YA, that would be even better!
Just a brilliant series! An unforgettable story with amazing characters and which was highly entertaining. I totally devour each book in this series and cannot recommend it enough. An absolute must read and you will be flipping pages till the bitter end.
This book and series had it all. Unexpected developments with lots of challenges for the characters with an amazing backdrop. The book was expertly written and scenes beautifully described - indeed a wonderworld full of magic.
I of course love all of Annette's Books, and these two beautifully Japan centered myth books that were so well researched as into backgrounds, legends, and methods of bringing the oriental style of storytelling into a worldwide style of sucking you into that world seamlessly. I am always amazed at the boiling talent of Annette, who starts her stories with a simplicity and almost a yawn, and she has the ability in these two books to keep you on the edge of your seat, almost rushing in a hurry to flip to the next page. I won't break this masterpiece of a story down because it's so new, But if you read any book this year, this should be that book. She makes it seem quite reasonable to be talking to a creature of myth one minute, to a Goddess the next, to a dragon in-between having dinner and Tea, and a soak in the steaming hot springs. Get this Book!
